In an ideal society a politician's opinion should weigh more than a lay person's, a scientist's opinion should weigh more than a politician's, and a philosopher's opinion should weigh more than everyone else's. When this chain of command can't be effectively implemented, the society has reached an alarming level of complexity. And when the reverse of it becomes unvoidable, that society is near its failure.
