The American political scene explained: The American right is largely comprised of working-class people who want minimal government intervention in their economic activity. They believe in capitalism and in the American dream, where people get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The American left, on the other hand, is made up largely of socialists who, by definition, are anti-human flourishing because they misunderstand fundamental human nature. By advocating for taking away hard-earned wealth and redistributing it to unproductive people, they ultimately kill human motivation. So if you only knew this much, you would assume that the rich and wealthy should naturally align with the right, while the poor should align with the left. But then you notice an anomaly. Why are so many of America’s tech millionaires and billionaires on the left? Does that mean the prior analysis is wrong? No. Here is the key to understanding that anomaly: many tech millionaires and billionaires support the left precisely because they benefit from cheap labor. The left supports open borders and large-scale immigration, which benefits the economic interests of these corporations and billionaires. So their interests align with those on the political left. But there is little doubt that, if allowed to continue unchecked, this alliance between tech billionaires and the left will fundamentally damage America.
