I'm beginning to think that the oil crisis or the global warming might be good for us (the former may even be cure for the latter) - in fact, just what we need at this point to save the civilization. It's mutual dependence and common threats to existence that compelled humans to unite into communities and form societies. Now increased security and independence is serving to undo all that and turning humans into technologically advanced savages.
