Society should spend more time shaming parents for being dependent on their children than shaming children for not taking care of their dependent parents That kind of society will make progress, because children will not be weighed down by the financial burden of their parents Now, I’m not saying that children shouldn’t take care of their parents. Good children should absolutely take care of their parents, but it’s also true that good parents should live their lives in such a way that they don’t become burdens on their children so their children don’t have to take care of them in the first place In India, parents actually take pride when their children grow up to be responsible and take care of them, and they proclaim that as proof that they’ve raised good children But don’t you see the height of narcissism in that? Instead of giving credit to their children for being good, for stepping up and taking care of them, they want to steal that credit for themselves If your children have to take care of you, you shouldn’t be proud of yourself as a parent, you should be ashamed for stealing life of your children
