Stages of awareness:
Why is everyone so stupid?
People aren’t stupid. They’re biased, and their biases often lead them to wrong conclusions.
Then comes the uncomfortable realization: I’m biased too.
It’s impossible to operate without bias, and the world is far too complex for anyone to know the full truth about anything.
So I read more, research more, and think harder. Then I realize that even this has limits. The human brain wasn’t evolved to discover ultimate truth. Given enough time, most of what any of us believe will turn out to be incomplete, mistaken, or obsolete.
Now I face a choice. I can refuse to form opinions because I might be wrong, or I can act despite uncertainty. But a life without convictions is paralysis.
The answer is epistemic humility and conviction on the field.
Zoomed out, I know I may be wrong. I know my beliefs are shaped by biases, blind spots, and limited information. I extend the same grace to others.
But once I step onto the field, I have to play the game. I have to make decisions, take sides, and act with conviction.
The challenge is to be fiercely committed in action while remaining humble in thought.
